CSA Week 19 (10/17/13)

It's a rainy fall day outside, and, as I type this, I have vegetable soup bubbling away (using up some of last week's carrots) and sweet potato cornbread in the oven (using up some of last week's sweet potatoes). If the recipes are as good as they smell, I'll be posting them soon. Today we picked up more fall goodness from Caleb Colvin. Mmmm

  • 4 green bell peppers
  • assorted hot peppers
  • small bag of sugar snap peas (they were SO good last week!!)
  • turnips (the white "things" with the big bunch of greens on top)
  • arugula
  • mustard greens
  • sweet potatoes
  • 1 small bunch cilantro (in the middle of the picture)
As I think on the next week's menus, I'm thinking some beans and greens are called for with this assortment! Or perhaps a good Indian curry using up the mustard greens and some turnips. Our kids enjoy just plain, braised mustard greens, so we might keep it simple. Sweet potatoes are so versatile--I'll have to post a list of all the different ways we use them. Those sugar snaps might not even make it into the fridge :-).

Sweet potato cornbread? It sounds yummy! Don't forget to pickle some of those veggies!
